... A senior administration official said that neither President Bush himself, nor his chief of staff, Andrew H. Card Jr., nor his counselor, Dan Bartlett, was Mr. Woodward's source. So did spokesmen for former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell; the former director of central intelligence, George J. Tenet; and his deputy, John E. McLaughlin.
A lawyer for Karl Rove, the deputy White House chief of staff who has acknowledged conversations with reporters about the case and remains under investigation, said Mr. Rove was not Mr. Woodward's source.
Mr. Cheney did not join the parade of denials. A spokeswoman said he would have no comment on a continuing investigation. Several other officials could not be reached for comment.
You Democrats are SPECULATING again, even after you were COMPLETELY WRONG every other time you speculated. Yet you still do it.
It's like a dog you kick but it keeps on coming back to lick you.
And where are the WMD? Right. I believe anything Dick Cheney says. Right.
It's like a dog you kick but it keeps on coming back to lick you."
This is the second high profile MSM reporter who kept his mouth shut about events that affected the 2004 election (liberal media, my ass!). They knew full well what they were doing.
These reporters shielded government, rather than shine the light, and hindered, rather than facilitated the public's right to know.
Just more proof that corporations not only own the media, but influence the message.
I think you're right aristotle -- Libby was indicted for perjuring himself in telling the grand jury that Cooper told him about Plame and for obstructing justice ... the Woodward revelations don't exculpate Libby of those charges ... they do, however, seem to open up a target rich environment for Fitzgerald ... if Cheney was the first WH official to out Plame to a reporter, he probably violated federal law ... and if he didn't reveal his actions to Fitzgerald when interviewed, that could be view as obstruction of justice ...
oh what a web they weaved when they first practiced to deceive ...
(1) Fitz has known the secret "source" disclosing Plame for a long time, perhaps up to 2 years.
(3) The Left continues its psychotic obsession with this genuinely insignificant story.
(4) So far, it appears that "Plamegate" is nothing more than the "Whitewater" equivalent of the Bush Administration ... with the major difference being that Whitewater ended up with 14 felony convictions of Clinton cronies, while Plamegate has only netted one indictment, no convictions.
Isn't is convenient though, how all of the sudden Woodward is speaking out? I don't see how it will affect the perjury charges against Libby. When you lie, you KNOW that you are not being truthful, your intent was to lie, for whatever reason. What would be Libbies defense? OOPS, I didn't know I was lying? Must have slipped my mind, cuz I didn't know the meaning of 'lie'?
Every time a 'new' story comes out, I get an immediate headache, one of those NOW WHAT?...or I'M SO CONFUSED. And maybe that's just what this administration and their pocket dwellers what...to keep us running around in circles, so we forget what this is really about...too bad the American public will NEVER forget, we are reminded daily as more of our men in uniform come home in boxes wrapped in the American Flag.
Perhaps you forgot the part about it is still an ongoing investigation.
The Left continues its psychotic obsession with this genuinely insignificant story.
It's all over the paper and due to the Bushpig declining approval rating, it sure seems like someone cares.
Or do polls only mean anything when Chimpy's are high?
That is still way fewer than your Hero Raygun since you like dragging up history.
"Valerie Wilson was a CIA officer. In July 2003, the fact that Valerie Wilson was a CIA officer was classified. Not only was it classified, but it was not widely known outside the intelligence community.
Valerie Wilson's friends, neighbors, college classmates had no idea she had another life.
The fact that she was a CIA officer was not well- known, for her protection or for the benefit of all us. It's important that a CIA officer's identity be protected, that it be protected not just for the officer, but for the nation's security.
Valerie Wilson's cover was blown in July 2003. The first sign of that cover being blown was when Mr. Novak published a column on July 14th, 2003.
Now, something needs to be borne in mind about a criminal investigation..."
So, from these questions, I can only draw two conclusions: One, Woodward is a callous bastard, who will allow an innocent person to go through the pain and humiliation of an indictment due to his unwillingness to share pertinent and important information, OR, two, he has enlisted to support BushCo and knows that by saying what he recently said about the case, he has successfully stopped it in its tracks.
In my book, either way, it doesn’t speak too well about the man.
THUD!!!! I can just hear this hitting the floor already.
