While promoting his first solo record, ''The Great Divide,'' in stores today, Stapp recalled that before the show he had injured his back in a car crash and also developed a nodule on his vocal cords.
To keep him touring, Stapp says, a ''rock 'n' roll'' doctor prescribed him the anti-inflammatory steroid prednisone.
That was the Stapp who lay on the ground during the Dec. 29, 2002, show by the now-defunct Creed. Some fans filed a class-action lawsuit, which was dismissed in 2003. But while they thought they saw a man giving up on them, Stapp says what he saw was the world giving up on him.
