I am a Minnesota resident but I live in Arizona during the winter. If you live in two different states during the year, do you need a plan that covers you in both states, or do all plans do this? If you buy a plan, are you covered for medication no matter where you are?
Snowbirds have plenty of options when it comes to Medicare Part D. There are 10 insurers offering Part D drug plans on a national level, meaning Minnesotans could obtain drugs through their participating pharmacies in any state. But even smaller drug plans have wide networks that include pharmacies in most states. Most plans also have mail-order options that seniors can use from any location to obtain 90-day supplies of their regular prescriptions.
Some insurers do charge different premiums in different states for their Part D plans. However, Minnesotans will only pay the local premium amounts, even if they live much of the year in another state.
